Conclusion: Horizons for Nordic Contemporary Art
by Tanya Toft Ag
Contemporary art has evolved in parallel with digital technologies and the ways in which these have impacted societies – and will continue to do so. The digital influences the matter with which artists engage, as well as the scopes, aims and tactics embedded in contemporary art; it stimulates new modes of artistic agency by evoking a sense of capacity to interfere with the world, thus encouraging conceptions of art’s global relevance beyond local societal and political contexts. How we acknowledge the influence of societal digital dynamics on art is relevant to how we further art’s discourse; how we view, review and archive the contemporary relevance of art. This book calls for an ontological reconceptualization of art’s and artists’ position of inquiry concerning both the matter and context of art.
